DESIGNER
Gender Freedom Society Branding, 2024
About the Project
I'm working with the new transgender rights non-profit Gender Freedom Society on a starter brand guide and simple website (yet to launch). The design above was my personal favorite of 3 directions I presented. The research phase, we decided the brand should feel comforting, hopeful, friendly, and joyful. I used a rounded, playful, sans-serif typeface (HWT Artz) to bring joy and friendliness. The sophisticated yet whimsical color palette evokes comfort, and hope. The palette began as a modern mash-up of the trans pride and non-binary pride flags. The shape of the words also evokes a flag, representing pride and community.

The design below was another option I presented and the one the board ultimately landed on. This one has a pictorial mark, which they liked for merchandise and educational content. It is based on the transgender symbol on the right. The upper-left arrow combining the male and female symbols has been re-oriented to point up, representing our community rising above hate and discrimination together. The color palette is more saturated, but otherwise has the same origin story as the previous design.
